Some really steady trips on Wednesday and today, even if the winds and conditions slightly limited our areas of operation. We’ve been launching on protected banks, or as protected as possible from a direct east wind at 15-20mph. If we can get to my productive areas, we will catch fish and this is why I’m in a 2012 Pathfinder 2300 HPS. I can’t say enough about the Pathfinder 2300 or the whole Maverick Boat Company product line for that matter. My Pathfinder is truly the best bay boat made… period, end of statement. Let’s get to the fishing. Both mornings, we started with Sebile Stickshadds to stick numerous speckled trout in the 2-4# range including a few medium redfish in the mix. As the morning went on, we switched to a great technique to fish a little deeper water and sand ledges. The drop-shot rig really works wonders around timid fish in off-color water. The insertion of a plastic worm rattle in the Gulp! baits also draws more strikes. A few other top-secret techniques won’t be offered, you’ll just have to visit Redfish U. to learn how to triple your catch of redfish and speckled trout. And no… we never use livebait!! Thanks, E...

Well, we had a nice little break from all the fishing the few weeks and returned just in time for some very nice Fall weather. This can be a tricky time of year for anglers and inexperienced guides with small cold fronts, irratic pressure and windy mornings. It’s important to remember that although the temperatures are a bit cooler right now, the water temperature hasn’t dropped yet. With a morning north wind, blue-bird skies and rising pressure, it’s extremely important to be around large numbers of redfish/speckled trout and demonstrate the correct and most productive techniques and baits. This is yet another obvious reason to choose the proven instruction at Redfish University for your inshore guiding services. Normally in the Fall, a slow-walked Sebile Bonga will produce some strikes and this held true both mornings. I wouldn’t say they were overly aggressive but our anglers seem to always want to start with the Bongas. After our first pass, we turned around and tripled our catch with Stickshadds and Gulp! Jerkshads. Both mornings we covered 12-15 areas and caught fish in every spot. Both mornings yielded 30-35 trout and a handful of redfish in all sizes. Transitional weather can be a difficult and frustrating period for anglers especially in the Fall. It’s always a fantastic idea to book an instructional/fish catching lesson with the Professor at Redfish University. One class is all it takes! Cheers, E...

Just ended a long run of Redfish University trips and looking forward to a quiet weekend in Seaside followed by another packed week of trips next week. The fishing has been great over the past 10 days of trips and our clients have found plenty of steady action with Pensacola’s redfish and speckled trout. As always, we start with the Sebile Bongas at first-light to get the exciting topwater strikes on the flats from the trout and redfish. Lately, there’s been several large groups of jacks that will cruise the flats, but most clients couldn’t care less, which is fine with me. On occasion, an angler will choose to launch a topwater into these jacks and then he’s tied up for at least a half hour which sadly cuts into our time alloted for our targeted species. In any event, we will cover 10-12 areas each morning giving our anglers a wide range of fishing techniques from the shallow flats, to deeper points and deeper/shallow oysters and even some sight fishing if the opportunity exists. This is the diversity and experience that Redfish University clients have come to expect from us. Back with tons of Redfish University excitement Monday morning. Thanks, E...

Great fishing and tons of trips!! The end of Summer will not slow Redfish University down. Quite the contrary, as the Fall and Winter are always as busy with our big numbers of regular local anglers, lots of instructional trips and the fact that our tourist volume will decline significantly which means more anglers can be accommodated at Redfish University instead of being unconfidently directed elsewhere. We’re on a long streak of superb trips at Redfish University with 6 more in a row and the fishing has been excellent. On the flats as usual and finding plenty of great action with redfish and speckled trout. We’re spending most of our mornings in the bay system but we did hit Santa Rosa Sound over the weekend to target some really nice groups of redfish near Navarre over the weekend. In the Sound, we start with Sebile Bongas and switch to Johnson 1/4oz Gold Spoons after 730am. Mullet and broken-bottom are your keys to success. Redfish U. anglers are kindly keeping an appropriate amount of fish for dinner and we are releasing a lot of fish healthy and happy. Our clients are definitely enjoying their fresh catch at Aegean Breeze in Gulf Breeze as I do a few times per week. Thanks again, E...
