Pensacola’s best in redfish and speckled trout at Redfish University-April 23-May 1

April 23-May 1. It’s easy to see why Redfish University is the most popular choice for experienced anglers and anglers who demand the very best in saltwater fishing along the Gulf Coast. We’re finishing up a string of trips every morning at Redfish University and heading to Belize in the morning to my home away from home to hit the bones, permit and tarpon for a few weeks. Here in Pensacola, the redfish and speckled trout are flying in the boat. Fishing with some of the most experienced bass anglers in the Southeast region so my hobby has been pretty easy. Just get these guys around some fish and let them do their thing. Topwater Bongas, Gulp! Jerkshads and Johnson Gold Spoons are the top baits and catches of 15-20 redfish in the 23-30″ range and 40-60 quality speckled trout in coming extremely easy. Most fish are released and the anglers are taking just enough to eat for dinner. I’m outta here! E...

Pensacola redfish/trout with the Southeast’s artificial specialists-April 16-19

It’s been an incredible string of fantastic fishing days at Redfish University. The Redfish University clientele appreciates the challenging aspects of artificial-only angling and quite frankly, we consistently and I’ll dare say always, outfish anglers/guides using livebait. This is true for two reasons; covering productive water with unparalleled techniques and ALWAYS being in areas with large amounts of redfish and speckled trout. Starting our mornings with an effortless and peaceful ride on the new Pathfinder 23HPS, launching Sebile Bonga Minnows at rabid redfish and speckled trout and then sweeping them up on Gulp! Jerkshads, Shrimp and Johnson Gold Spoons. Our anglers are introduced to the absolute best saltwater fishing equipment every morning and the results speak for themselves. Here’s a few photos of this week’s favorite trip with a talented 6 year old angler named Trent. Anglers have been taking a few fish for dinner and we’re releasing the majority of the fish. Pensacola redfish, speckled trout and flounder festival at Redfish University-April 9-12, 2012

The month of April has been outstanding for redfish, speckled trout and flounder here in Pensacola. Ten trips in seven days is too much when I only want four trips per week!! No complaints (I guess:)) It’s always a nice start to the day with 40-50 quality speckled trout on Sebile Bongas and Gulp! Jerkshads. We’ve really found some large trout lately with several hitting the 5# mark and countless 3#plus fish in the mix. The redfish have been really predictable as well with most fish coming from schools of mullet on shallow flats and troughs. Gulp! Jerkshads in camo and Johnson 1/4oz. Gold Spoons are our favorite baits for the redfish that are cleaning up in the mullet turbulence. We’ve also seen some flounder on muddy bottoms and have stuck several fish this week. It seems the bigger redfish on the shallow flats near Pensacola Pass have become a bit more unpredictable with only a handful of bulls taken this week. Soon, we will concentrate 100% on the redfish and speckled trout on the shallow bay flats. Fishing is excellent! Thanks, E Holstman. Please click an image to...

Loads of redfish and speckled trout at Redfish University-April 3-7, 2012

Guiding everyday, sometimes twice a day, with some very talented anglers looking to take speckled trout and redfish on artificial baits. Countless bass anglers from the north have really enjoyed and have been treated to some spectacular April fishing here in Pensacola. Targeting a variety of shallow water flats in the Pensacola Bay system to produce countless speckled trout with many in the 3-5# range and 10-20 redfish between 20-30″. Find the mullet and bait and you will find both species happy to take both Sebile Bonga Minnows and a range of Gulp! baits. Thanks, E Holstman. Please click an image to...

Pensacola redfish, speckled trout and weather at Redfish University-Mar.30-Apr.2

We’ve been having some early morning thunderstorms for the last few days so the rescheduling tricks at Redfish University have begun during the very busy season. The fishing in Pensacola has been excellent for our specialties of redfish and speckled trout in shallow water. Early morning topwaters with Sebile Bonga Minnows has been as good as is gets!! Nearly every cast will produce a quality speckled trout in the 15-22″ range and there are plenty of 20-25″ redfish mixed in for some high quality entertainment. Concentrating on flats with huge amounts of mullet and bait is of the upmost importance as this is exactly where both the redfish and speckled trout want to congregate. These fish are both feeding on the smaller mullet and fish bait as well as picking up crustaceans, shrimp, small crabs, etc. in the turbulence behind the large school of bigger mullet. Topwaters from daylight to 730am and then over to the Gulp! Jerkshads and Johnson Spoons to clean up the rest. We’re also finding decent numbers of flounder smoking off the banks and can be easily caught if targeted directly. Fishing is absolutely fantastic right now. We have some trips packed together at the end of this week due to some weather delays and then more great action next week with an outstanding tide all week. Book now while limited days are still available. Thanks, E Holstman Please click an image to...
