Back from London and I really enjoyed the 2012 Olympics, Amberley Castle and visiting with my Euro-mates. London always impresses and the Olympics were beautifully orchestrated. I really have some catching up to do at Redfish University and thanks to all the regular and new clients that have waited so graciously. Every year during Shark Week on Discovery, anglers call from all over the country to go shark fishing. Apparently, not many anglers are reading the Redfish University website but I’ll do some easy afternoon shark fishing trips all week this week and next! It’s almost as easy as bottom fishing in Pensacola Pass with the other charter fishers. We’re still catching the regular limits of quality speckled trout and redfish every morning from 515-1015am. Topwater Sebiles and Gulp! both will outfish livebait everyday. For the shark fishing, I’ve been using strips of ladyfish on 100# mono and a circle hook. To make it interesting, our anglers will use the same 6-10# light tackle(Penn Conquer 2000-4000/Abu Garcia Veritas and Penn Legion rods) for these 2-5′ black tip sharks. Many of the sharks will jump and all are clipped at the boat. Occasionally, a small, easily handled specimen will enter the boat for photo and educational purposes. A little nerve-racking at times but great fun and a nice change for Redfish University...

Read MoreA speckled trout and redfish beatdown at Redfish University-July 27, 2012
Well, the fishing continues to be outstanding here at Redfish University. This morning’s clients administered an absolute beatdown on the large speckled trout and redfish. Started with topwaters early to produce several speckled trout in the 3-5# range with some really nice 25-27″ redfish in the mix. We continued to toss Sebile Bongas until around 730am and just smashed both species on shallow flats. We didn’t need to measure any fish this morning for the cooler as nearly every speckled trout was over 20″ with several 23-25″ specks and one 7#, 31″ monster that enhaled a Berkley Gulp! Jerkshad on a shallow bank. The redfish were also extremely cooperative this morning with some great fish in the 24-30″ range on both topwater and Gulp! Found a few 25# jacks on the flats that unfortunately pounded our topwaters resulting in a 20 minute fight. A waste of time, but fun nonetheless. Our anglers took home an appropriate amount of fish for tonight’s fish fry and grilled redfish. We encourage, but do not require, Redfish University anglers to release all big speckled trout and upper slot redfish so many quality fish were release including 5 or 6 trout in the 4-5# range, the big monster 7# trout and some upper slot(26-27″) redfish. Packed until London departure next Wednesday and full for the rest of August. Five days(on purpose) off in 35 days and no relief in sight. Can’t complain!! Thanks Redfish University anglers! E...
Read MoreRedfish University all along the Gulf Coast-July 18-26, 2012
Trying to get in as many Redfish University anglers as possible before taking eight days off for the London Olympics and some fishing in S. England. We’ve been fishing every morning of the week and really covering the coast between Port St Joe and Pensacola. Last week, we were here in Pensacola and found plenty of fish even though the conditions were a bit tough. I always say if you’re around big numbers, you’re going to get plenty of bites with the correct techniques. Redfish University uses the correct techniques. Had some VIP Redfish U clients accompany some friends and I over to Port St Joe to do some scalloping and morning fishing for speckled trout and redfish. Sunday morning I guided a few St Joe locals who I met at Bluewater Outfitters during my Berkley Fishing Tour seminar this past Spring. Although the fishing is definitely not as spectacular as it was back in the late 80’s, we still put a pounding on the large speckled trout and found redfish around Pompano Point with even more fish closer to the canal. During the afternoon, we cleaned up on the scalloping. Monday morning, we guided some Destin locals in Choct. Bay and then back to Pensacola where I’ve spent the rest of the week smashing the redfish and speckled trout in our bay system and Santa Rosa Sound. In all areas, Bongas, Johnson Gold Spoons and Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads were the baits of choice. Solidly booked throught August but a few dates are available in late August. Thanks, E...

Redfish University clients have been treated to the best inshore artificial-bait fishing on the Gulf Coast for the last several months. Fishing every single morning of the week means consistently staying on huge concentrations of quality redfish and speckled trout that will readily attack topwater Sebile Bongas, Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads/Shrimp/Crabs and Johnson Gold Spoons with much appreciated aggressiveness. Speaking of appreciation, thank you to all the new and returning Redfish University clients alike especially the few dozen from Cyberangler that have found an angling home at Redfish University. With 11 monthly clients at Redfish U, I’ve done my best to accommodate each and every angler interested in the Redfish University experience.
