And again, high production at Redfish University-April 20, 2011

For Day 2 with T and Rich, they had requested a little sight fishing for large redfish like we did last Spring. Blasted off at 900am with cloud-cover but very little wind. I can work with low-light conditions but the wind has made the fish very difficult to see in time. Hit two or three areas where I always find these large redfish but only found a few sharks cruising the flats. We ended up targeting a clear flat that had a gradual dropoff and just had to trust that the fish were there. Trust comes with experience and the redfish were there indeed! Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo with Marsh Works 1/4oz. Bull Red Jigheads did the trick. Lots of fish between 18-28# to tire the fellas out before leaving back to Connecticut.  Back to the bread and butter tomorrow with the legal redfish and big trout. Book now to experience an epic adventure and learn more about inshore than you can ever imagine at Redfish University. E Holstman\ Please click an image to...

Success again with redfish and trout at Redfish University-April 19, 2011

It’s been a bit more challenging lately at Redfish University but we seem to always figure it out and produce great catches of the shallow inshore species. Full moon and high winds can make things tricky but consistently being around large numbers of fish is the key. Guided regulars, Terrance and Rich, this morning for some redfish and speckled trout. Started at first-light with topwaters only to draw a few fish but lots of misses and blowups. Since Pure Fishing acquired Sebile Lures, I have been extremely impressed by these baits. Switched to the Sebile Stick Shadds and absolutely hammered the big trout all morning. Wind blocked banks aren’t always the ticket in windy conditions as we found most of our quality fish on banks being pounded by small swells. After getting lots and lots of trout in the 2-5# range we concentrated on the redfish. Found lots of mullet and minnows and the fish were there. Ended up with some in the 25-30″ range that were taken on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads. All fish released and back with T and Rich tomorrow for another epic experience at Redfish University. Day 2- Legal redfish, trout, bull redfish and pompano at Redfish University-April 8, 2011

For Day 2 with Chris and Will Tiller, we started at first light in Santa Rosa Sound for some topwater action for redfish and speckled trout. The topwater bite wasn’t as hot today but we stuck some decent redfish and a few nice trout. Perfect topwater conditions with low-light, light winds and lots of fog. At 830am, we made a slow cruise through the fog to the west where we found some bull redfish laying around on some clear shallow flats. The fog and low light made sight fishing difficult but we trusted the fish were there and caught some nice redfish blindcasting Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads. For our finale, I took the guys down the beach to find the pompano in the washouts. The pompano were there and we caught some great fish including a 3.5# fish. Missed several but got some great dinner. Tomorrow, we will hit some topwater early in the bay and then hit the beaches again for pompano and redfish. Lots of bookings but a few dates available at Redfish U. so book now! E Holstman Please click an image to...

Day 1-Lots of redfish of all sizes at Redfish University-April 7, 2011

Guided Mr. Chris Tiller and his son, Will, for the first of a three day redfish and speckled trout adventure. Both anglers are accomplished bass fisherman and were an absolute pleasure to fish with. Started at first light over in East Bay and Blackwater with a rising tide. Quickly found some decent redfish holding on some shallow flats and around some shallow structure. Hit some really productive flats for the first few hours and found some nice groups of redfish from 25-29″ that were more than willing to cooperate with a few double hookups. Travelled further south into East Bay and fished some structure in 6-10′ of water in high winds and knocked off some quality redfish in the 26-31″ range. We found the Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads in camo to be most productive. Taking the fellas into Santa Rosa Sound tomorrow morning, followed by some sight fishing for over-sized fish and some possibly some pompano. Stay tuned! Cloudy day sight fishing at Redfish University-March, 31 2011

Guided Joe Gallagher and his son, Ryan, this morning. The guys wanted to catch big redfish so we made a short run to some flats that have been holding these fish. Low-light conditions made it challenging for us to see them but we were able to spot several in very shallow water and get baits in front of a few. We also discovered that many were just milling the deeper drops along the edges as the sun wasn’t cooperating. The Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo did the trick and the guys wore out their arms on some huge fish. Please click an image to...
