And again, trout, redfish and Spanish at Redfish U.-July 23, 2010

Guided Brian Enabnit and friend, Doug, this morning. They absolutely whacked the speckled trout this morning on topwater baits. In a few hour period, 25-30 trout were brought to the boat including some nice 3-3.5# fish and Brian’s pig trout at 5#. Stopped at a few more great areas and picked up more trout and a 25.5# fat redfish as well. Again, the guys wanted lots of late morning action so we split for the Pass to find some great Spanish mackerel action on spoons but no sharks or tarpon this time although we did see one tarpon leap in the distance. Lots of fish were taken back to Destin for a cookout! Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Redfish and Trout at Redfish University-July 14, 2010

Guided Brian and Holly McDuff this morning for some topwater redfish and trout action. Like on our first trip, Holly had the hot hand scoring the first several trout but Brian did eventually catch up. Found plenty of both species and had a great time with lots of explosions. Fished some deeper structure as it heated up and found some nice redfish and larger trout.  Gulp! Jerkshads in camo worked very well again and Skitterwalks at first light produced all the trout and redfish. All fish released. Please click an image to enlarge and view...

The year’s most unproductive day at Redfish University-June 16, 2010

Boy oh boy, what a poor day of fishing. Guided Mr. Mark Clark and his son this morning. Both anglers are very experienced bass fisherman from E. Texas so I was very excited to show them some of our excellent redfish and trout fishing.  Started at 515am and hit some shallow flats with lots of bait and mullet. Plenty of topwater short strikes but only a few speckled trout caught. We did manage a 5# fish and a few legals but overall, mostly small trout and very inactive fish. Rolled over to another normally fantastic area and only enticed 4-5 blowups but no hookups. At this point, all three of us were fishing extremely hard with Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads since the topwaters proved difficult for the first hour. Managed a few more very small trout and a small redfish. Moved to some deeper(8-12′) water and still couldn’t find quality redfish and trout although we stuck 12-14″ white trout nearly every cast. Not what the fellas came to see and definitely not my strength. Poked around to 7-8 more great areas with lots of bait and mullet with the same dismal results. Very, very slow today. The fellas agreed to return soon and a very deeply discounted trip was granted. Hopefully tomorrow will be much...

Splendid day of redfish and trout at Redfish University-May 27, 2010

Guided Mr. and Mrs. Griffith this morning for some redfish and trout action. Phil commented early on the beautiful full moon setting and wondered if the bite was going to be difficult. My focus was to put them around as many fish as possible(a great full moon plan) and their job was to catch them. Both anglers were very impressive and caught multiple fish using a few proven techniques. Started out at first light and approached some great topwater banks to find them being pounded by 1-2′ chop. We tried the topwaters for a few minutes but I think the fish were pretty freaked out in the washing machine. Switched to Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and began hammering fish. Plenty 0f 3-4# trout and Phil stuck the most perfect 27″ redfish I have seen in a while. Right at 27″ and 7.5#. He was thrilled! Changed locations to a more protected bank and found redfish and trout slicks everywhere. Stuck some more 3# trout and a few 4-5# redfish. Ended up making a very productive little milkrun and found fish nearly everywhere. Fished a bank I hadn’t visited in some time and absolutely smashed the redfish on a shallow sandy bottom. Lots of fun today and lots of action. All fish caught on Gulp! Jerkshads in camo and rootbeer rigged on Marsh Works jigheads. The Griffith took 3 Redfish and 8 big trout for a future cookout. Topwater trout and some redfish at Redfish University-May 26, 2010

Guided Mr. Ken Glasser and friend Bob this morning. Hit the water at 515am and hit the topwater trout and redfish. Lots of great action this morning with multiple acrobatic strikes and some large fish that didn’t find the hooks. Switched over to Gulp! Jerkshads around 800am and caught several more nice trout and some redfish that made it to the pilings. At 9am, we decided to run towards the beach in search of pompano and redfish. Fished for an hour with no pompano and zero redfish spotted. Not even the ladyfish were very active on the normally productive incoming tide. Made a quick decision and blasted off to some very clear flats in the Sound. It’s nice having a boat that will hit 70mph. Stuck a few decent redfish there and a few others missed. Ended with some sightfishing around some of the most uncooperative redfish and trout I’ve ever seen, but did catch a few redfish and trout in the end. Awesome  early morning and a very difficult late morning. Ken and Bob kept a few speckled trout for...
