Guided Mr. Randy Hamilton this morning in Escambia and East Bay. Multiple Grand Slams of redfish, trout and flounder with some tripletail mixed in. We found the redfish a little difficult at first but figured it out and found some fish concentrated in 6-8 ft. of water. The new Hewes 21 Redfisher proved to be a fish catching machine like the last one as we boated a ridiculous amount of fish in a 3.5 hour period. The fishing is difficult in the upper bays but knowing where they are on the various tides is the key. Lots of fish in very few places. All fish caught on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo and Gulp 3″ Shrimp in lime tiger. No rattles were needed today as the water was pretty clear. Oh, saw one 15# tarpon which charged the boat and bounced off us in a hurry. We’ll get him next time. All fish released except 7 Flounder and 1 Tripletail. Don’t forget, September 1 marks the $250.00 shallow water redfish trips in East, Escambia and Blackwater Bays. Book now as I will be EXTREMELY busy. Please CLICK on an image to...

Guided Terry and Victor from Destin this morning over in their home waters. Started out in Hogtown Bayou and stuck 3-4 redfish but the water was still a little off and the mullet were not as plentiful as in recent trips. Blasted through the landcut and arrived in West Bay as the water was beginning to fall. Found lots of redfish inside and just on the edge of the grass. A few hours into the falling tide, the tailing began. All together we saw 100-150 fish in schools of 2-20. We picked off 7-8 very good quality redfish but all-in-all, the fish were very shy today. Great casts and quiet presentations by Terry, Victor and myself were mostly ignored. It really makes me want to go over there tomorrow at stick the crap out of them!! Anyway, hopefully the fellas learned a ton about shallow water angling and how frustrating redfish can be at times. All fish caught on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and 1/4oz. Johnson Gold Spoons. All fish released. Click a photo to view larger...

Guided Mr. Fred Nordmeyer and his son, Philip, this morning before the rain. The father and son duo wanted to learn more about the upper bay systems particularly the Blackwater and East Bay area. Although the Blackwater Bay area is still very fresh and cloudy from the rains, Fred and Philip are now armed with some very valuable knowledge for producing huge numbers of redfish in Blackwater. It seemed the fish were a bit less active this morning but we still produced some quality fish. Concentrated on small schools of mullet in 3-4 feet of water with Gulp 5″ Jerkshads in camo, some with rattles and some without. Ended up with 14 very nice Flounder, 8 respectable Redfish and 10 hefty trout. We also dropped and missed quite a few good fish. *Philip really came through at the end with 2 Redfish and 1 Flounder on his own with artificial baits. He stuck with it all morning and I hope he learned a ton about fishing. All fish released except 6 flounder and 2...

Wow! 56 Fish today!! What a fantastic day at Redfish University. Guided Mr. Ron Harrell from Mobile this morning. Ron wanted to learn some advanced techniques for catching redfish, trout and flounder. My goal was to successfully demonstrate the proper techniques in some very productive areas so that he could easily replicate the same scenerios over in Mobile Bay. We dropped the HAMMER on all three species this morning , catching legal fish Grand Slams 16 times. To our surprise, Ron also picked off a 5# Tripletail on a Jerkbait that dropped the hook as I was preparing to land it. All fish were caught on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo with a small worm-rattle insert. Not too much sightfishing lately which results in by-catch(trout and flounder) but hopefully the water will clear soon. Total for the day: 17 nice Redfish, 22 Trout(2.4-4.5#),16 Flounder(including two 4.5#’s and one 5#), 1 Tripletail dropped at the boat. All fish released except 7 flounder for Ron and I to stuff. Back at it hard Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and...

Took a little time off and now I’m busier than ever with 5 trips scheduled in a row before I leave for The Cup in Kemah, TX. Guided Mr. Allen Beach this morning in East Bay and crushed the fish. Allen is a competitive bass angler who wanted to experience how hard redfish fight and we accomplished this many times over. The water was still a little dirty but nothing that we couldn’t handle. We covered some sand flats with 5″ Gulp! Jerkshads in camo but the secret to our success was the use of some small rattle inserts. This, I believe, allowed the redfish and trout to find the baits easier and attracted them from a distance much like a popping cork. Ended up with 18 Redfish in the 22-25.5″ range, 16 very nice trout and a nice flounder. All fish...
