Redfish University continues normal guiding operations from Pensacola to Panama City(Port St. Joe). On days off, we will assist with BP oil spill issues if the need arises. With a long string of trips approaching and no cancellations in the coming weeks, I got out for a few hours today to locate some redfish and trout after the last five days of bad weather. Made it look easy with lots of redfish, trout and flounder taken on various baits including Gulp! Jerkshads, Baitfish, Shrimp, Lipless Cranks and even some decent topwater action. Fished for two hours and boated 7 redfish, 15 trout and 2 flounder. Lots of great fish around right now and Redfish University knows where they are and, most importantly, how to catch them! Trips tomorrow, Thursday and Friday and next week so we’ll report back soon. See everyone at Redfish U. soon. Yours, Eric...

Redfish University offers its thoughts and prayers to the families of lost loved-ones in the disaster, our friends, guides, commercial fisherman, recreational anglers and wildlife in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may have a devastating impact on the entire Gulf Coast, especially its fisheries and the economy surrounding these fisheries. Redfish University pledges its full support to our friends to the west in hopes of a swift cleanup and recovery. Redfish University will donate 5% of its weekly earnings, or approximately $50-$100 per week, to assist in cleanup and recovery efforts. Also, Redfish University will offer its services and boats to assist in any local oil cleanup if the need arises. Because the impact on Florida waters is not yet know, Redfish University will continue normal guiding operations from Pensacola, FL. to Panama City FL. and all destinations in between. We have contacted many booked clients and have updated them on current events. Since Redfish University covers the entire Gulf Coast of Florida, guiding locations can easily be moved east in the event of oil...

Guided Mark Battia and Dave this morning. Both are very talented anglers and although today was difficult at times, they really showed some solid skills. Started in the upper bays for some big trout. Found some very nice speckled trout pretty quickly with some redfish and flounder in the mix. The lack of mullet made things difficult but we stuck 12-15 very nice trout between 2-3.5#. Next, sightfishing was on our minds so we traveled to some very clear water. Immediately found big schools of redfish in shallow water and got to work. It may have been the full moon but these fish were pretty difficult at first but when the tide changed, they really started to bite. Mark and Dave were able to sight fish many redfish in shallow, clear water with some very nice casts and exciting strikes. Even a few double hookups were achieved!!! I enjoyed the awesome view from the poling platform as they picked off redfish along the bank. I hope to fish with both guys again very soon. Challenging but very enjoyable trip for us...

After a short vacation, I’m back in town and ready to fish. Guided Mr. Rick Sanchez this morning. Rick is the proud new owner of a 2010 Pathfinder 22 and wanted to do some trout and redfishing. Hit the water at 600am and found lots of fish immediately. Found some very nice trout with some small redfish in the mix. Hit some other less productive areas and then got back on track with some big trout and some better redfish. Ended the day looking for those shallow water oversized fish and the jacks but none were found. Great morning of fishing with a fellow Maverick owner. All fish taken on Gulp! Jerkshads and Marsh Works 1/8oz. jigheads. All fish released. No photos today, too busy...

For today’s second trip, I guided Steven Quarles. Steve just wanted to pull on fish this afternoon. No problem, right back to the redfish, jacks and the big Spanish mackerel. Topwater was fun and we also got some on Gulp! Jerkys. Finished the trip with some speckled trout and called it a day. All fish released. Dinner at Tuscan and back at it hard in the morning. Two trips today! Guided T and Rich this morning. These guys are very good anglers and lots of fun to fish with. Hit the redfish and trout first thing in the upper bays and then headed west to find some pompano. No pompano today so we looked for cobia for an hour. No luck. Headed inside to sight fish some redfish and then found a school of jacks again. Lots of fun on topwater and jigs with light tackle. Please click an image to enlarge and view...
