It’s been a pretty productive, and instructive, few days at Redfish University although I would classify the redfish, speckled trout and even the bull redfish as perplexing. In some areas, the fish just shut down in 20 minute intervals and in others, they simply wouldn’t bite at all. You know they’re there, but just not hungry. We ended up with 15-20 speckled trout and 3 redfish, not exactly epic and a lot like bass fishing which is never good. For the bull redfish, the numbers are in the hundreds on the flats but it took that many to get a few to bite. We found deadsticking Gulp! 4″ Shrimp in the middle of the small schools the only way they would take a bait. Both trips focused on education and very productive techniques for both legal redfish and speckled trout as well as the bull redfish on our flats. I know our anglers will have the appropriate tools to put as many, hopefully more, on their own boats soon. Preparing today and tommorrow for the Bass Pro Shops Spring...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. With some bad weather early in the week, we’ve experienced the slowest week of the year here at Redfish University. We can’t complain with over 30 Redfish University guided and instructional trips for the year but playing catch up with our local instructional trips has proven to be difficult and frustrating for both professor and student. We’ll attempt to revisit postponed trips next week with some more comfortable weather on the way. We only performed three of six instructional trips this week and taking most of the weekend off before heading into next week’s guided trips ending with the Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic in Destin where things will spin wildly out of control with 15-20 Redfish University trips as a result of our seminars. Another fast-paced and tiring March is on the way!! The redfish and speckled trout outings continue to be impressive with large numbers of quality speckled trout in some shallow locations. Feb. 22-24, 2013 as a part of the Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic. Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University continues to be fast and furious. Four to five trips per week is fine by us for January and February. On Friday, we performed a double instructional with two groups of clients seeking guidance, locations and techniques for Winter redfish and speckled trout. Both morning and afternoon session were outstanding! Our anglers took as many speckled trout as they wished and a nice handful of redfish in all sizes. Today’s(Saturday AM) Redfish University outing was purely a fish catching experience with another load of speckled trout and redfish on the shallow water flats. Our anglers continue to graciously fill our coolers with appropriate numbers of each species. We’re just going to take Sundays off in the future for many reasons, namely a break and to eliminate the chance for weekend-warriors to dial in on our productive areas. Pensacola Fishing Charters and Instruction at Redfish University- The place to be on the Gulf Coast!! With no slow-down at Redfish University in the foreseeable future, we’re just pounding out some really productive instructional and guided fishing trips here in Pensacola. The Winter of 2012-2013 has been absolutely astonishing with great fishing, beautiful weather(not tomorrow) and a tremendous volume of both travelling and local anglers visiting Redfish University for our expertise in instruction for redfish, speckled trout, bull redfish as well as locational and technique heavy services. Pensacola Fishing Charters and Instruction at Redfish University. For our 23th trip of the year, we guided new residents CJ and his son, Nate. The guys were interested in speckled trout and then some shallow water bull redfish. I guess they’ve been following Redfish University’s recent reports. Started to the north with more speckled trout than we could count and then travelled south to find some large redfish on the flats. Found some clear and chalky water but the big fish were in both so we hammered away. Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp and accurate casts are the keys to success. All fish released this morning.
