Foggy morning at Redfish University-Oct. 8, 2009

Fished with my friend and fellow tournament angler, Mike Tindal, this morning in Blackwater and Pensacola Bay. Found some small tailing fish in some shallow areas but they were pretty difficult. Ended up sticking some good quality fish in sandy bottom areas with lots of mullet. Also caught some decent trout and a very nice flounder in the same areas. Buzzed some other areas around the bay and saw quite a few fish. All fish...

Redfishing heating up-Sept. 7, 2009

Guided a great client from Atlanta this morning in East Bay and south Escambia Bay. Hit some very nice trout early and then blasted off to get some redfish in the shallows. Again, poling and elevation allowed us to have many more quality opportunities at sitting, tailing and cruising fish. Ended up with 8 fish between 25-29″ and quite a few under 22″. Lots of fish, lots of action and hopefully, lots of knowledge gained. See ya soon, E...

Shallow water at its best at Redfish University-Oct. 5, 2009

Guided Doug Dragen this afternoon in Blackwater and East Bay. Found plenty of redfish tailing in shallow water.  Sightfished with Gulp! 3″ Shrimp and Powerbait Chigger Craws rigged weedless on a #3 Owner 1/8oz. hook. Stayed on the pole most the afternoon as the trolly made things difficult. All together we stuck 13 redfish in the 23-28″ range. All fish released. Photos to...

Redfish (the easy way) with some mackeral and sharks-Sept. 30, 2009

Guided Mr. Keith Jones and Cullum Miller today. They wanted to learn about the redfish in our area. One day we would concentrate on the larger fish along the beach, and tomorrow we would target the shallow water fish up in the northern bays. Started the morning with a few Spanish mackeral, then went sightfishing for blacktips along the beaches. When the water rose to its highest point, we started sightfishing for larger redfish along the beach. Found plenty of fish in the 27-38″ range in shallow, clear water. Also found a few fish in the bay. Lots of fun but I told them, “Just wait until tomorrow!” All together, we stuck 30-35 upper slot and over-sized fish. Please click an image to...

High water, rain and redfish(and a surprise)-September 17, 2009

Guided Mr. Jim Lawrence and his four sons this morning in Destin. Jim is one of my favorite clients and it was our goal to top our 30-35 redfish massacre back in March. With five anglers and me, we split up with two on my boat and two on Jim’s boat. Well, we were predictably greeting with high and very muddy water in Hogtown. Lots of mullet and menhaden on the banks but very little redfish. We managed to stick a handful and dropped another few before we changed locations drastically. Headed back towards Destin and fished a couple flats where we picked up a few more fish. Ended at Crab Island where we stuck a 29″ cobia on light tackle. A nice surprise. All-in-all, the fishing was pretty slow but we covered lots of water and a few different techniques that should produce for the Lawrence Family in the...
