**Last minute cancellation this Saturday and Sunday if anyone is interested in booking with Redfish University this Labor Day weekend. Fishing is always great at Redfish U.!! Great opportunity to fish with RU. Guided Mr. Kevin Reynolds this morning in the far eastern reaches of Santa Rosa Sound. Hit the water at 530am and ran way east. Pulled out some topwaters and Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and got after it. Lots of nice speckled trout, some decent redfish, but also lots of undesirables such as ladyfish, bluefish and jacks. Made some small adjustment and stayed on the redfish and speckled trout. Poling some shallow areas and found the redfish to be pretty cooperative compared to the western end of the South(less boat traffic and anglers.) Got some very nice redfish to take our 3″ Gulp! Ghost Shrimp in 2′ of water. Lot of fun this morning with a very good angler. **Notice** Had a last minute cancellation on Sat and Sun, so those days are now open. No big deal, love to have the weekend off but the fishing at Redfish University has been stellar if anyone wants to go Sat. and/or Sun(Labor Bay...

Boy oh boy, what a poor day of fishing. Guided Mr. Mark Clark and his son this morning. Both anglers are very experienced bass fisherman from E. Texas so I was very excited to show them some of our excellent redfish and trout fishing. Started at 515am and hit some shallow flats with lots of bait and mullet. Plenty of topwater short strikes but only a few speckled trout caught. We did manage a 5# fish and a few legals but overall, mostly small trout and very inactive fish. Rolled over to another normally fantastic area and only enticed 4-5 blowups but no hookups. At this point, all three of us were fishing extremely hard with Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads since the topwaters proved difficult for the first hour. Managed a few more very small trout and a small redfish. Moved to some deeper(8-12′) water and still couldn’t find quality redfish and trout although we stuck 12-14″ white trout nearly every cast. Not what the fellas came to see and definitely not my strength. Poked around to 7-8 more great areas with lots of bait and mullet with the same dismal results. Very, very slow today. The fellas agreed to return soon and a very deeply discounted trip was granted. Hopefully tomorrow will be much...

The calls/emails keep coming, so Redfish University will continue to guide on the Gulf Coast. Our inshore waterways remain clear of oil. Guided Mr. Preston Thomas this morning. Preston is an experienced angler and wanted to go checkout some redfish and trout action in Pensacola Bay. Started out at 515am with some topwater action. Found the fish to be pretty sluggish today(maybe as a result of all the rain yesterday), but we did catch a handful of speckled trout until the bite came to a halt. Travelled to some other productive areas and found the redfish/trout more cooperative on the Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads. Most of the redfish were on the small side but we did find one larger 4.5# trout. Continued a little milkrun and found a few fish in each area. Today was pretty difficult but I think we did as well as we possibly could. Slow bite, lots of freshwater. Preston returned home with some redfish and trout to prepare on that new professional oven of his. Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Guided Mr. and Mrs. Griffith this morning for some redfish and trout action. Phil commented early on the beautiful full moon setting and wondered if the bite was going to be difficult. My focus was to put them around as many fish as possible(a great full moon plan) and their job was to catch them. Both anglers were very impressive and caught multiple fish using a few proven techniques. Started out at first light and approached some great topwater banks to find them being pounded by 1-2′ chop. We tried the topwaters for a few minutes but I think the fish were pretty freaked out in the washing machine. Switched to Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and began hammering fish. Plenty 0f 3-4# trout and Phil stuck the most perfect 27″ redfish I have seen in a while. Right at 27″ and 7.5#. He was thrilled! Changed locations to a more protected bank and found redfish and trout slicks everywhere. Stuck some more 3# trout and a few 4-5# redfish. Ended up making a very productive little milkrun and found fish nearly everywhere. Fished a bank I hadn’t visited in some time and absolutely smashed the redfish on a shallow sandy bottom. Lots of fun today and lots of action. All fish caught on Gulp! Jerkshads in camo and rootbeer rigged on Marsh Works jigheads. The Griffith took 3 Redfish and 8 big trout for a future cookout. Guided Mr. Barry Cowart and his son, Barry Jr. this morning. Today’s focus was early morning topwater action and introducing Barry Jr. to inshore fishing and our local redfish and speckled trout. Hit the water at 515am and watched fish explode on the baits all morning. Young Barry quickly gained confidence with a light-tackle spinning outfit and began walking the topwater like a pro. Stuck some nice trout in the 3-4.5# range and also hit some nice redfish in the same areas. Fished until around 1000am when the wind picked up and the water movement stopped. All fish taken on Skitterwalks and Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads. Barry and Barry took some fish home for dinner. I hope the guys learned alot today and can use this experience to catch many fish together in the future! Please click an image to enlarge and view...
