Guided Travis and his father today. Took off at 1000am and cruised to some extremely productive flats for sight fishing redfish. It was a bit tricky today with tea-colored water and poor visibility. Made sure the fellas were supplied with my client pairs of Oakley Monster Dogs and Scalpels and it wasn’t long before we were seeing and catching some quality fish. Made a little milk-run and found great numbers of fish in each area and even caught some of those annoying redfish on the beach that have been pretty difficult as of late. Plus, the water was beautiful and very clear along the beach. I did see a few pompano including a 4-5# bruiser blazing through the surf. Hopefully one of the surf anglers didn’t lose a rod to that beast! Anyway, again tomorrow so I’ll report back then. A few dates left in March and April but they’re going fast. Book now to experience the thrill and knowledge of Redfish University. E Holstman Please click an image to...

100% sightfishing today and that’s the way I like it. Had a couple guys today with the request “we’d like to see fish and catch fish.” They came to right place, that’s Redfish University’s speciality. Hit the beach and stuck a few nice pompano and then fished some shallow flats for legal and over-sized redfish. Hammered the redfish in the 6-30# range with easily 20 fish in the boat in a few hours. With some tired anglers, I travelled way east into the Sound and found them some more legal and over-sized redfish on the shallow grass flats. Always easy to find fish but they were rabid this morning for us. Easy, easy day. Back again tomorrow. Better book now, filling up quickly. E Holstman Please click an image to...

Guided Mr. Bill Cleek and family today. Bill and the fam are regular Spring break visitors from Houston and wanted to use their beautiful 22 Pathfinder to get familiar with the Pensacola area fishing. Met the crew at Shoreline Park at 830am and ran east in search of some redfish and trout action. Found minimal redfish and a few trout but nothing spectacular so I showed them some very productive areas they may want to try later in the week. Took a cruise back to the west. Instead of chancing the big redfish in the surf that have been unusually uncooperative lately, I introduced the Cleeks to a solid mixture of very plentiful and extremely cooperative redfish in the 8-20# range on some 3-6′ deep clear flats. Pulled up, lower the trolling motor and absolutely smashed them! All fish were easily caught sight fishing and it was thrilling seeing the group have such fun. With the Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo we took as many fish as we could humanly handle. Lots of trips coming up so book now to experience the wonder of Redfish University. Photos to...

Read MoreInstructional Excellence at Redfish University-November 15, 2010
Redfish University has really gained a reputation for excellence in the area of instructional/location-based/technique guided fishing trips. We are finding that many local and visiting anglers are taking advantage of this unparalleled and untapped resource. The instructional curriculum at Redfish U. remains fluid and a work in progress, and always will, as each trip and angler will dictate levels of educational intensity. Also the fact that I, and every angler, should learn something new on each fishing outing, the curriculum continues to get even better. Of course, we catch plenty of the targeted species, but these excursions are centered around where to be, when to be there, what to look for and what these fish are biting. Guided Mr. Bob Simmons in the northern bay areas this morning to concentrate on redfish, speckled trout and even largemouth and striped bass areas of interest. I think Bob found it very interesting to catch a redfish, a trout and a bass in the same areas! Covered some great areas and showed Bob everything I know about inshore fishing from setup techniques, casting, knot-tying, bait selection, line selection, leader selection to shallow water, deeper water and even introduced the dreaded popping cork with which we actually scored some very nice fish. Anyway, a very fun trip before the rains and winds really kicked up. For those interested, there isn’t a better way more efficient way to learn target and species specific areas than by booking an instructional/location/techniques(I need a clever name for these guided trips!) guided trip at Redfish University! You”ll save the fee in fuel money in a few months!! Lots of instructional trips on the books so please plan ahead. No photos today, forgot my camera. Happy Fishing! Eric...
