Windy, dirty water and some tricks at Redfish University-April 25, 2011 Guided Ken Browning this morning for a quick redfish and speckled trout trip. Started at first light and threw some topwaters on a protected flat. Lots of a quality trout including a 6# beast that fell near the boat. Only a few medium redfish on that pass but we made up for it later. Travelled further east and used Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads with plastic Woodys worm rattles in rough, dirty water to really catch some nice redfish and some decent trout. Fished some structure on the way back and got some more small redfish. The worm rattles came in handy today and really made the difference in difficult conditions. The redfish and trout are much more plentiful in the bay than the Sound. Hint. hint. At it again tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon for the dreaded double booking. No photos, forgot camera. E...
Read MoreLegal and over-sized redfish and pompano at Redfish University-April 10, 2011
Guided Amanda and Scott today for some redfish and pompano action. For Scott’s birthday, Amanda treated him to a morning of exciting fishing at Redfish University. What a gift! We departed at 630am and ran to a flat that has been infested with over-sized redfish. First cast, double hookup! Nice way to begin the morning. Hit a couple more clear flats with the same results. Headed down the beach to find some pompano in the surf. Caught two nice fish in 45 minutes but they weren’t as abundant as I’d like so we raced way east in the bay to find some legal redfish and some deeper 4-6′ flats. Stuck some really nice 26-31″ redfish including two perfect tournament fish that would have produced over 14#’s easily. All fish taken on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and orange pompano jigs. Kept some pompano and redfish for dinner. A few days off and then very busy again. E Holstman Please click an image to...
Read MoreDay 2- Early morning topwater then sight fishing at Redfish University-March 6, 2011
Guided Mr. Paul Murphy for Day 2 of our redfish adventure at Redfish University. Started at first light and threw topwater baits in very shallow water where there were plenty of mullet and bait. It wasn’t long before we drew explosions from hungry redfish and a few very nice speckled trout. A few redfish actually porpoised completely out of the water to pounce our topwaters. Made for a very exciting morning of fishing! More blowups than hookups but that’s topwater fishing for legal redfish. Around 830am, we took off for some 3-5′ deep, very clear flats where there have been plenty of legal and over-sized redfish. Found a school of 30-40 fish and began hooking fish. Sight fishing and blindcasting were as equally as successful with Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo. Even got a few Spanish mackeral in the mix. All fish released and at it again tomorrow morning with a 3 Day booking for redfish and speckled trout. More reports to follow. E Holstman Please click an image to...
Read MoreAn instructive and productive afternoon at Redfish University-March 29, 2011
Guided Mr. Frank Brueske and his son-in-law, Chris, this afternoon for some fishing in the northern reaches of the Pensacola Bay system. Frank spends most of his time in Escambia Bay so I really wanted to broaden his angling knowledge and locations. Started at 1:30pm with a soft easterly breeze and incoming water. Didn’t take long for Frank and Chris to stick some quality speckled trout on Gulp! baits and hardbaits. Travelled a bit further south and fished some very productive banks for redfish and found some cooperate fish including Frank’s 24″ fatty that crushed his Gulp! 5″ Jerkshad in camo. Fished several more areas and had success pretty much everywhere. Hopefully Frank and Chris have found some very productive areas for redfish and trout and will have much success in the future. Probably a cancelled trip tomorrow because of the weather but trips the rest of this week and next so I’ll have some more awesome Redfish University reports. April is almost filled but still have openings in May so book now to experience the wonder of Redfish University. E...
Read MoreSome Chicks Fish Too hotties at Redfish University-March 19, 2011
Hey! I like fishing and I like beautiful women, so today was a great day. Got out for a few hours this morning to get some footage for Chicks Fish Too. A buddy of mine in South Florida runs the gig and my website designer and marketing genius, Randy Hamilton, handles his site and marketing as well. Found an area with lots of big redfish, beautiful water and got some really nice photos. I went into the process assuming I would be hooking fish and handing off but I was mistaken. I pointed, they recognized the fish, made very good casts and they hooked them solo. Very cool to see. Anyway, got 5-6 big fish and cruised back to Pensacola Beach for a day at the beach, a fabulous lunch and a few cocktails. Travelling a bit this week and sorting my new boat, so I’ll report back next week with many more reports. E Holstman Please click an image to...
