Just ended a long run of Redfish University trips and looking forward to a quiet weekend in Seaside followed by another packed week of trips next week. The fishing has been great over the past 10 days of trips and our clients have found plenty of steady action with Pensacola’s redfish and speckled trout. As always, we start with the Sebile Bongas at first-light to get the exciting topwater strikes on the flats from the trout and redfish. Lately, there’s been several large groups of jacks that will cruise the flats, but most clients couldn’t care less, which is fine with me. On occasion, an angler will choose to launch a topwater into these jacks and then he’s tied up for at least a half hour which sadly cuts into our time alloted for our targeted species. In any event, we will cover 10-12 areas each morning giving our anglers a wide range of fishing techniques from the shallow flats, to deeper points and deeper/shallow oysters and even some sight fishing if the opportunity exists. This is the diversity and experience that Redfish University clients have come to expect from us. Back with tons of Redfish University excitement Monday morning. Thanks, E...

Everyday at Redfish University. Today we found plenty of speckled trout and redfish of all sizes. Sebile Bongas and Stickshadss were on the menu all morning with the overcast skies and rain. Great fishing and tons of trips!! The end of Summer will not slow Redfish University down. Quite the contrary, as the Fall and Winter are always as busy with our big numbers of regular local anglers, lots of instructional trips and the fact that our tourist volume will decline significantly which means more anglers can be accommodated at Redfish University instead of being unconfidently directed elsewhere. We’re on a long streak of superb trips at Redfish University with 6 more in a row and the fishing has been excellent. On the flats as usual and finding plenty of great action with redfish and speckled trout. We’re spending most of our mornings in the bay system but we did hit Santa Rosa Sound over the weekend to target some really nice groups of redfish near Navarre over the weekend. In the Sound, we start with Sebile Bongas and switch to Johnson 1/4oz Gold Spoons after 730am. Mullet and broken-bottom are your keys to success. Redfish U. anglers are kindly keeping an appropriate amount of fish for dinner and we are releasing a lot of fish healthy and happy. Our clients are definitely enjoying their fresh catch at Aegean Breeze in Gulf Breeze as I do a few times per week. Thanks again, E...

We’ve had some challenging conditions the last few days at Redfish University. Friday and Saturday were both full moon days and neap tides, not to mention some pretty dirty water left over from TS Isaac. Both mornings, we found the speckled trout and redfish pretty lazy on the Sebile Bongas but we got a few. Switched to small Sebile Stickshadds quickly and found the fish to be pretty cooperate. It also helps being around large numbers of both species. After 800am each morning, we stayed with Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and 3″ Shrimp in camo to find the rest of our limits. It was very important to move the Gulp! very slowly and even deadstick for a few counts. Easy targets was the name of the game. Full moon and neap tide conditions don’t always have to be difficult. Redfish and speckled trout will bite but you have to be around large quantities of fish, scale down your baits, fish slowly and be clever. An extremely experienced and smart fishing guide also helps a lot.:) Our clients kept some fish for dinner at Aegean Breeze and the rest were released happy and healthy. Booked the next 8 days so I will continue to provided steady reports as always. Thanks, E...

We’ve had some excellent redfish, speckled trout and flounder trips late last week and over the weekend at Redfish University. We also pulled out a crowd favorite over the weekend. Back by popular demand was Sponge Bob. With Tropical Storm Isaac approaching, the fish predictably went into a rabid feeding mode. A few days, catches of quality speckled trout exceeded 60 fish, while the redfish bit very well in deeper areas. It was difficult to target the redfish on the flats due to the huge numbers of very aggressive 15-23″ speckled trout. I’ve had some clients ask about the Sponge Bob fishing rod that I use from time to time especially on television. I had the opportunity to toss a Sebile on the kids rod, highly entertain some VIP clients and actually stick a few trout in the 3# range!! Most mornings produced a very quick two-angler limit of quality trout on Sebile Bongas and we cleaned up the rest on Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads. We’ve postponed Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and today’s Redfish University guide trip which should make things quite interesting for scheduling in the coming days around Labor Day weekend. Patience. Good things come to those who wait at Redfish University. Take care and thanks again, E...
