Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University May 29-31. When traveling and local anglers want to go fishing at Redfish University, these anglers want to do just that, go fishing. We like to take it a step further and call it “catching” but we’ll address this shortly. Although we’ve had some pretty stiff winds out of the Southeast for the last few days, there are ALWAYS areas to target redfish, speckled trout and flounder in the Pensacola area. Experience, creativity and a little extra effort in the form of trailering the boat to semi-protected areas to eliminate rough water crossings are always appreciated by Redfish University anglers. Of course, wind direction and speed will always limit our fishing areas on that particular day. It is the captain’s, or in this case, the Professor’s experience, reputation and drive that will make the difference between a fantastic morning of catching big numbers of fish and learning the most productive techniques available or not catching anything at all or even worse, not going. Also worth pointing out is the fact that many instructional Redfish University anglers actually prefer challenging conditions during an instructional trip and nevermind the common knowledge that the redfish, speckled trout and redfish will be much more aggressive and cooperative in adverse but manageable conditions. Disappointing anglers at Redfish University isn’t an option. Let’s return to the word “catching.” Each morning we started a bit earlier to allow for travel time to a wide variety of locations. With anglers loaded up in the Redfish University Ford Excursion with complimentary coffee, espresso(hand-made at Redfish University) and donuts we travelled to destinations including Santa Rosa Sound, Perdido Bay, some areas east of Navarre and some areas we will not mention. With the wind to our angler’s backs, they launched Sebile Bongas, Stick Shadds, Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads rigged on Owner Twist-Locks and Johnson Gold Spoons to secure some really nice “catches” of quality speckled trout, awesome redfish and even a few flounder. In a few cases, we actually trailered the boat again to travel to different areas to give our anglers some different scenary but the same action-packed fishing. In all areas, we...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. The guiding and instructional charters here at Redfish University targeting redfish, speckled trout and flounder over the last week has been outstanding. We’ve been guiding a huge number of very talented bass anglers and anglers looking for the best inshore instructional guiding on the Gulf Coast. Last weekend’s full moon and cold front conditions provided a challenge as the best action took place during the first few hours on the morning but we also delayed some of our instructional and fishing-catching trips until the late afternoon where we found better success with all species. Having a full understanding of our local waters, identifying difficult conditions and being on the water nearly everyday is what separates Redfish University from all other guide companies and keeps our clients returning year after year. Early last week, it was the Sebile Bongas and Stick Shadds that did most of the damage with the redfish and speckled trout. As the full moon and front approached, it was important to adjust baits and presentation accordly. Further, with the increased traffic from weekend warriors, fair-weather fisherman and even other charter-fishers in the area, it was beneficial to our clients to draw from some equally and even more productive and less pressured areas miles to the north and east. Although we arrive on location far before most anglers, many times these boats do not display the proper angling knowledge, technical approach and overall experience to keep the fish in place, much less catch them. It’s Summer!! As always, in exceptionally difficult conditions, Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads, Shrimp, Flats Worms and Sand Eels will catch the most fish in combination with a 12# fluorocarbon leader, long casts and presenting an easy target. Speaking of Berkley Gulp!! One of the great things about being a long-time (12 years) Berkley Pro Staff member, is the opportunity to work very closely with the research and product development branches in Spirit Lake, Iowa of the world’s largest fishing company, Pure Fishing. After the whole Sportsman’s Challenge television show, The Redfish Cup and all the other promotional work we perform in the industry, consulting for Pure Fishing with...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. 100 trips came quickly this year! Thanks everyone! The last ten Redfish University trips have consisted of instructional sessions and guided inshore sessions including some double-bookings last Tuesday and Thursday. Thankfully, many of our trips in last week were catch and release outings and we are rotating many different areas nicely as to not over-fish many very productive flats and banks. Pre-cold front conditions on May 9th and 10th were ideal for our shallow water redfish and speckled trout with huge catches of quality speckled trout on topwater Sebile Bongas and Stickshadds as well as a handful of redfish in the 21-25″ range. As the small front passed last night weekend after returning from vacation, we were confronted with low humidity, high pressure and difficult tide conditions from Monday to Wednesday afternoon. Topwater did work but the fish certainly were not as aggressive as the following week. Small, detailed adjustments and concentrating around large numbers of speckled trout and redfish in this case, increased our catch-rate tremendously. We still picked up some great fish on Sebile Bongas and StickShadds but we switched to Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and Mantis Shrimp to secure more and more bites. It was very similar to Winter-time techniques in mid-May. As the week progressed, higher humidity and cloud-cover approached and dramatically improved the attitudes of both targeted species. Our Redfish University morning sessions take place from 5am-10am in a variety of locations with a few targeting the Big Lagoon area last week with some clients renting a beachhouse in the area. Our afternoon trips will begin at roughly 300pm and go until dark. In this instance, we are warming up on the shallow water jumping blacktip sharks for the first hour or so and then traveling to the redfish and speckled trout grounds later in the day as our most exciting action will take place from 5pm until dark. It’s going to be another outstanding week of instructional and guided fishing sessions here at Redfish University this week. Redfish University is the only place to be for Pensacola inshore fishing with strictly artificial baits. Thanks to masses of Cyberangler...

Redfish, speckled trout and flounder fishing in Pensacola, Florida continues to be outstanding Redfish University and we’re doing it everyday. With nearly the entire month of May and June booked when I’m in town, we’ll be treating our Redfish University clients to the best instructional and pure guiding services of the Gulf Coast. Today and yesterday’s trips were a combination of instructional and fish-catching guide trips in search of redfish, speckled trout and flounder. Both outings produced a huge number of speckled trout, 10-15 redfish and two flounder per trip resulting in some nice Grand Slams for our demanding anglers. Most fish released and an appropriate amount were taken for dinner. Redfish University will guide tomorrow, Thursday and Friday and then we’re outta here! Take care, E...
