The week of the bass fisherman!! Redfish University ran some incredible Pensacola Fishing Charters and Instructional Charters over the last few days. The week was a bit challenging with spurts of inclimate weather but we managed to strategically pound out four great instructional trips and had to postpone one due to high winds and rain. The great thing about Redfish University instructional trips in the fact that our anglers are local(Mobile to Panama City) and can usually jump on an instructional guided trip in a moment’s notice and that was the name of the game this week. We mentioned bass anglers before; every group of anglers this week were recent transplants to the Pensacola and Destin area with all impressive backgrounds in bass fishing in the Southeast and up north. These guys just needed some areas and ideas!! For the two trips in Pensacola, we concentrated in local bayous for one trip and the other was a combination of a mid-bay and upper bay trips with several redfish and larger trout still being found areas that are typically outstanding in the Spring. For Wednesday’s and today’s Redfish U. instructional trips, we travelled to Destin, Florida to guide two new clients on Wednesday and a new client today that just purchased a new Hewes 18 Redfisher which was delightful to run today. In Destin we went shallow, very shallow. Before the sun got high on both mornings, we found the local bayous and the bayous up north to be pretty slow but as the sun rose, the very shallow flats in the 10-20″ of water came alive with redfish and large speckled trout. Some of the flats in Choct. Bay are absolutely full of redfish!! We used Johnson 1/4oz. Gold Spoons and Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads to pick them off both sight fished and blindcasted. It was a fantastic four days with some very talented and fun bass fisherman. Redfish University’s clients will be incredibly pleased with this year’s Pure Fishing(Berkley, Penn, Sebile, Spiderwire, Abu Garcia) allotment order and we’ve added some new weapons to an already terrifying arsenal. We will introduce the Penn Regiment 7’0 rod to our clients...

We had three instructional guides trip over the weekend here in Pensacola, Florida at Redfish University. What a beautiful start to 2013!! Each instructional Redfish University trip took place in completely different locations around the Pensacola Bay system but all trips had one thing in common… big numbers of quality speckled trout and redfish. As always, Redfish University’s instructional guide services are unsurpassed in knowledge, experience, professionalism and highly productive techniques and there continues to be a very high demand for Redfish University’s much sought after services throughout the Winter and into the Spring. During Saturday and Sunday’s double-booking, we had ideal conditions although both afternoon incoming tides were predictably a bit more productive. We’re still finding speckled trout in the 2-4# range on shallow 2-3′ flats near deeper dropoffs and ledges while the redfish in the 20-26″ range are as shallow as 9″ but more numerous in areas of 2-3′ of water. A combination of Berkley Gulp! baits, Johnson Gold Spoons and even small Sebile Bongas are responsible for all our catching success. In addition, very light(6-8#) Spiderwire Ultracast InvisiBraid and a 12-15# Stren Tinted fluoro leader in Gunsmoke will increase the bite-rate tremendously. We took it easy on both populations this weekend with two trips going catch and release and one trip with a few in the cooler for a Sunday fish fry. Each trip produced 40-65 speckled trout from 14-21″ with most being legal and 8-15 redfish in all sizes. We will continue through the week with a few instructional Redfish University bookings over in Destin, Florida as well as here in Pensacola with more great trips and huge numbers of fish. Thanks again to everyone for fishing at Redfish Univeristy! You’re beautiful!! Thanks, E...

For Pensacola Fishing Charters, Redfish University is the place to be!!Happy New Year and Redfish University starts with a bang!! We’ve jumped out to a very quick start for the first week of 2013 at Redfish University with two instructional trips, a bull redfish trip and some Pro Staff work. For our instructional trips on Wednesday and today, we concentrated on the redfish, speckled trout, flounder and stripers in the upper reaches of Escambia and East Bay as well as some local bayous in the Pensacola area. With the colder recent temperatures and falling water temperatures, we’ve focused mostly on Berkley Gulp! baits and lighter fluorocarbon leaders to produce incredible numbers of quality speckled trout and legal redfish while the flounder and stripers have been a bonus catch at the moment. A combination of proven techniques including the standard jighead and the drop-shot rig have kept rods bent. For the bull redfish on Thursday afternoon, we targeted these giants in shallow clear water in lower Pensacola Bay. The Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp has continued to be the main course for these shallow cruising redfish. Each trip, a huge amount of speckled trout, legal redfish and bull redfish were release but an appropriate amount of fish were taken for dinner. In March, we are excited to take delivery of the new 2013 Pathfinder 2300 HPS as well as an identical 2013 Pathfinder 2300 HPS a few months later just in time for the Associate Professor to handle the elementary and family-style trips for the remainder of the 2013 Redfish University fishing season. Redfish University will capture this market as well in 2013!! Of course, each Pathfinder will be powered by the incredible Yamaha Vmax SHO 250. The beauty of current year Pathfinders/Yamahas/AmeriTrail trailer at Redfish University each year means virtually zero maintenance, system failures and downtime throughout an extremely busy fishing season. We’re back Saturday and Sunday with two Redfish University instructional trips with some very excited local anglers. Looking forward to another epic year!! Only 297 Redfish U. trips to go. Thanks, E...

WOW!! What a massive 2012 at Redfish University!!! Thank you Redfish University anglers, clients, Pro Staff sponsors(especially Pure Fishing, Yamaha and Maverick Boat Co.) and fans for a fantastic 2012 fishing season. We’ve surpassed all of our goals for the year and ended the 2012 Redfish University at 223 instructional and guided trips for the year!!! In the process, Redfish University has provided the best angling education available on the Gulf Coast to hundreds of local anglers, traveling anglers and even a few local inshore charter-fishers. We’re looking forward to an even more successful 2013 season with many surprises in store. The last few instructional trips for redfish and speckled trout in 2012 were outstanding although a few mornings were painfully cold and some very difficult low water conditions. As always, we produced a big number of speckled trout up to 4# and quite a few redfish. We switched to some much smaller Berkley Gulp! baits and scaled down our leader diagram a bit to draw more strikes in the harsh conditions and rapidly falling water temperatures. Most bites in these conditions will come as the bait is resting after a series of strategic movements in areas with large numbers of fish. We encourage our anglers to closely focus on line movement which is another great reason to use Spiderwire Ultracast InvisiBraid in 6-8#. Some anglers kept a small amount of fish and we had one much needed catch and release trip. Counts stayed steady with 20-40 great speckled trout and a handful of redfish in all sizes. Thanks again and see all you future Redfish University anglers in 2013. Big year!! E...

For Redfish University’s 220th fishing charter of the year, we played the shallow water game with the bull redfish in Pensacola Bay. Yesterday, we concentrated in the northern parts of the bay for another extraordinary instructional session with the legal redfish and quality speckled trout. For anglers who demand the best in saltwater angling instruction, Redfish U. is the only choice on the northern Gulf Coast. We’re taking the large redfish on the flats on a few great baits such as the Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp and the Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads. For the speckled trout and redfish on our instructional sessions we will use a wide variety of baits from Berkley Gulp!, Sebile, Johnson and some new baits from Berkley Havoc including the Grass Pig in Watermelon, California and Swamp Gas. Some exciting new additions are coming to Redfish University in 2013. As Redfish U. continues to capture an ever-growing market share of the saltwater instructional guide niche as well as regular Redfish U. trips, we will bring on an Associate Professor and an additional 2013 23 Pathfinder HPS, not to perform instructional guide trips but to capture and secure the huge number of the more elementary, family/kid style charters that we pass on each year. This apprentice will provide trips in search of bull redfish, sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, sharks, white trout, etc. and will also include the use of live and natural baits for less experienced anglers. 300 is the goal for 2013 and the “Fishing with Roland Martin” episode will help. Thanks again for an incredible 2012!! E...

For Pensacola inshore fishing charters, Redfish University is the place to be!! We’ve been fishing a wide variety of areas the last few days, running combinations of instructional and fish-catching trips and producing big numbers of fish. Friday’s double bookings were wonderful while Saturday and Sunday’s trips were a bit slower but we eventually pounded out several quality fish. For the redfish and speckled trout, we’re concentrating in the upper bays and even some areas to the south where some bigger speckled trout and redfish are still hanging around. Early morning is still great with topwater Sebile Bongas and then the traditional Berkley Gulp! and Johnson 1/4oz Gold Spoons have really done a number on both species. In addition, the local bayous in Pensacola have started producing some large speckled trout in the 4-6# range but we haven’t seen our 7# plus fish just yet but some lucky anglers in the near future will take a great number of these trophy speckled trout very soon. The now famous Redfish University drop-shot rig is responsible for many of our big trout and redfish in a few specific areas and under the correct conditions. For the anglers looking for the big redfish for catch and release, they are still plentiful but not in the huge schools in the middle of the bay which is fine by us. These fish can be seen and caught with the preferred method and a Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp in Lime Tiger. Some release trips but several speckled trout and redfish are hitting the cooler for holiday cookouts. Rained out this morning which means an interesting scheduling conflict from Wednesday on. Lots of trips through the first week of January 2013. Thanks again everyone and Merry Christmas, E...
