Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University-March 13,14 2013

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. It’s hard to believe we’re at 45 trips for the year already and is only mid-March! Well ahead of schedule. The last few days have been full of huge speckled trout and mid-sized redfish in a wide variety of areas and water conditions. We’re actually finding great fishing to the north right now even though the water is still pretty dirty but bait selection and clever techniques is the key and why Redfish University is your best choice for shallow water redfish and speckled trout. Both days, we rarely caught speckled trout under 20″ with most in the 22-23″ and a few from 25-28″. The redfish have ranged from 22-24″ with the exception of a few in the 26-28″ range. Again, experience, knowledge and enhanced techniques will produce nice amounts of fish even in less than optimal conditions. No sheepshead either day, I am proud to announce. We’ll do a double booking tomorrow and then a morning instructional on Saturday as we’ve postponed our visit to Belize until next weekend. Everyday next week again so more reports to come shortly. Take care, E...

Pensacola Fishing Charters and Pure Fishing at Redfish University-March 9,10,12 2013

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. It’s been a great three days at Redfish University. We performed two awesome instructional trips over the weekend, a wonderful Low Country boil at Pure Fishing’s beach house on Sunday evening and today we guided 10 representatives and executives from Pure Fishing. Finding plenty of quality speckled trout and some very nice redfish in shallow water. The key to our success the last three days was finding improved water clarity, a concentration of mullet and adding small gold spinners and worm rattles to our Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and Havoc Grass Pigs. Oh yeah, we also caught a sheepshead on Saturday at Redfish University. First in 37 years and I hope it never happens again. He chased a Gulp! Jerkshad. Most fish released and few went home for dinner. Speaking of dinner… dinner tonight with the crew and then some rest. Working with Pure Fishing(Penn, Berkley) Friday afternoon, Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday over in Orange Beach with our regional Pure Fishing reps. Booked the next 11 days straight with the exception of this Sunday. Taking Sundays off. Sorry. More reports very soon. Thanks again, E...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University-March 3-8, 2013

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. What a fantastic week of fishing at Redfish University. Fished all week in a wide variety of locations from our homebase in Pensacola and over to Destin, FL. We’re still finding some difficult conditions to the north in the form of dirty, fresh water but we made some really clever adjusts and put our Redfish University anglers around some huge concentrations of redfish, very large speckled trout and even the bull redfish on the shallow flats and bars. Destin and Ft. Walton were particularly productive as the water has really cleaned up nicely to our east. Lots of legal redfish on the sand and grass flats but our highlight this week was the quality of the speckled trout. A few mornings we caught 10-15 speckled trout over 20″ with quite and few in the 4-6# range. The sight fishing for the bull redfish was also outstanding with much less pressured redfish way to our east. We’ll spend this weekend locally with speckled trout and redfish trips both on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday evening, I will join the thirteen Pure Fishing representatives and executives from Spirit Lake at their beachhouse on Pensacola Beach for a huge shrimp boil and oyster roast. Lots of fishing chat that evening before our big trip on Monday morning of next week! Booked Monday through Friday of next week and then off for an extended weekend at my other home in Ambergris Caye, Belize. I need my permit, tarpon and bonefish fix! Thanks again, E...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University-Feb.27,28 Mar. 1, 2013

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. With all the volatile weather this week, we didn’t get in as many Redfish University instructional and guided trips as we would have liked. The Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic rush is always challenging near the beginning of a busy March and Spring season but we will sort a schedule for everyone, rest assured. The weather on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week was challenging, the water was still stained and the tide conditions were actually pitiful but we made the correct decisions to target the speckled trout and redfish in the north on Friday and then concentrate on the bull redfish near the Pass on the neap tides on the previous two days. Those big redfish will bite in all conditions!! For the species to the north, it was important to understand the water clarity, slow water movement and changing pressure. Ideally, we fished the cleanest water in the area away from the rivers but even in the some really questionable water, we produced bites from sluggish, blind speckled trout and redfish. In these conditions, Berkley Gulp! and Havocs with chartreuse jigheads and plastic worm rattle inserts increased our bite rate tremendously. For the big redfish down south, we also found the water to be a bit off-color but we were able to see plenty in water depths of four feet and shallower. We also found that launching the ledges proved very productive. The Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp in Lime Tiger also equipped with worm rattles worked beautiful. This morning’s bull redfish trip with a couple celebrating their anniversary was postponed until warmer temperatures fall upon us. I’m happy they did, it was 37 degrees at takeoff time and I was very pleased to receive a text from them at 5am this morning from Destin! Hitting it very hard next week and then really looking forward to the Pure Fishing executives and regional reps trip the following Monday! 13 anglers and 4 boats! It’s going to be a fantastic time with our friends from Pure Fishing!! Take care, E...

Charters, Bass Pro and 2013 Product at Redfish University-Feb. 26, 2013

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. Lots of exciting news and charters over the last few days. Over the weekend, we travelled to Destin, FL. for our annual Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic seminars. Our Friday morning guide trip in Destin was postponed due to terrible weather but we carried on inside Bass Pro Shops with a total of six Redfish University seminars on Friday evening and all day on Saturday. They say that performing a single one hour seminar is the equivalent to an standard eight workday so according to my calculations, I worked two days straight without sleep. There’s nothing to it with great preparation and a solid grasp of the topics. Anyway, the Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic seminars went extremely well, we had huge crowds and thank you for all the very nice emails and compliments at the conclusion. Also, thank you for the nearly twenty Redfish University guiding fishing trips in the very near future! Looking forward to next year! In other news, our 2013 Redfish University arsenal has arrived and our clients will be treated to some of the best fishing tackle and equipment in the world. In addition, to the staple Penn Conquer reels and Penn Legion rods, we have added a few new items to the Redfish University toolbag. Redfish University will now offer the Penn Regiment 7′ rods, the Abu Garcia Inshore Revo 30 spinning reels and the Abu Garcia Volatile 7′ rods. We were able to test these products last year and we are very proud to add fine products for our anglers at Redfish University. The normal Gulp! baits, Johnson Spoons, Spiderwire Ultracast Invisibraid, the new Berkley Havoc Grass Pig and a new fluorocarbon, Berkley Pro-Spec is now our choice for 10,15,20# fluorocarbon leaders. For Redfish University guided and instructional trips, we were washed out last Friday morning in Destin and yesterday(Monday) here in Pensacola but we did perform an instructional trip this morning with some Bass Pro Shops seminar goers. We were met with a pretty steady winds this morning, overcast conditions and some really off-colored water from the recent heavy rains. A bit tricky, not impossible...

Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University-Feb. 18,19 2013

It’s been a pretty productive, and instructive, few days at Redfish University although I would classify the redfish, speckled trout and even the bull redfish as perplexing. In some areas, the fish just shut down in 20 minute intervals and in others, they simply wouldn’t bite at all. You know they’re there, but just not hungry. We ended up with 15-20 speckled trout and 3 redfish, not exactly epic and a lot like bass fishing which is never good. For the bull redfish, the numbers are in the hundreds on the flats but it took that many to get a few to bite. We found deadsticking Gulp! 4″ Shrimp in the middle of the small schools the only way they would take a bait. Both trips focused on education and very productive techniques for both legal redfish and speckled trout as well as the bull redfish on our flats. I know our anglers will have the appropriate tools to put as many, hopefully more, on their own boats soon. Preparing today and tommorrow for the Bass Pro Shops Spring Classic in Destin with a total of seven seminars covering a wide variety of interesting topics. We have a guide trip Friday morning in Destin and then off to Bass Pro Shops on Friday afternoon and Saturday. See everyone in Destin! E...
